Bar Banter

When it comes to creating unforgettable wedding moments, the bar plays a bigger role than most people realize. It’s more than just a place to grab a drink—it’s a gathering spot, a conversation starter, and the unofficial launchpad for the party. We chatted with Tabby Bennett, a seasoned wedding bartender and business owner of Tabby’s Bartending Services, to talk all things cocktails, trends, and how to elevate your bar without breaking the bank.

Tabby’s seen her fair share of drink trends, and lately, she says the groomsmen are throwing it back with transfusions—yes, they’re making a comeback—and flavored Old Fashioneds that add a twist to the classic. “Smoky maple or cherry vanilla—guys are loving the new spins,” she says. On the flip side, brides are turning up the heat with spicy margaritas, adding a bold kick to cocktail hour. Glassware trends are also shifting toward function with flair. “Bourbon glasses and mule mugs are what I’m seeing most,” Tabby notes. “They photograph beautifully and make even simple drinks feel elevated.” But you don’t have to go all out on pricey glassware to make your bar stand out. Tabby swears by personalized cups and custom koozies—not only do they double as cute keepsakes, they can also replace traditional glassware altogether. They’re functional, fun, and totally worth the money, she says. Skip the extras that won’t get used and focus on the pieces that serve a purpose.

Pro-tip: Use an elevated disposable or reusable glassware company to help achieve this. Two of our personal favorites are Tossware and Sip Hip Hooray . They even allow for customizations!

When you are purchasing these “extras”, we always recommend ordering a mock up to make sure your customization printed correctly! It is also imperative to order extra of everything. You can easily run out of napkins and cups so make sure to have enough to stock each bar with extras.

For couples planning a wedding on a budget, Tabby suggests leaning into signature drinks. Pick two cocktails with no more than three ingredients. Give them cute names tied to the couple, and you’ve got a personalized touch that’s easy on your wallet. Another key tip? Less is more. Offering a smaller drink menu keeps the line moving and guests happy. One thing Tabby believes every wedding bar must have? A mocktail option. There are so many non-drinkers these days, and a thoughtfully crafted mocktail helps everyone feel included. It’s not just a glass of soda—it’s a chance to give every guest something fun to sip on.

Of course, we had to ask about her favorite part of a wedding day. Without hesitation, Tabby says: “Cocktail hour. It’s my time to shine and really set the tone for the rest of the night.” With years of experience and a knack for reading the crowd, she knows just how to warm things up, one pour at a time. From spicy margaritas to signature sips in custom cups, Tabby’s approach to wedding bars is all about balance—elevated but effortless, personal but practical. So whether you're planning an intimate garden party or a ballroom bash, take a page from her book: keep it simple, keep it stylish, and always pour with the heart.

Without Tabby and her team keeping the party going, our job would get a little more difficult. Don’t let your dance floor suffer because your bar is lacking.
